Unfinished Rules: Learning Spells
More unfinished rules - this time learning spells. Motivated to post by joeb.
Learning Additional Spells
No spells are automatically granted upon gaining a new level - casters must find, research, or bribe others for access to additional spells. Once a copy of the spell’s formula is found, spend 100sp for research materials and 1 downtime turn to make an attempt to learn it.
Finding (i.e. bribing) another practitioner (or a daemon!) with knowledge of the spell to tutor you in its performance will aid in your attempt.
Roll 2d6 with the following modifiers:
- Knowledge attribute bonus: +1
- Spell Difficulty modifier (if any)
- Successfully Bribing a Tutor, Mortal: +1
- Successfully Bribing a Tutor, Demonic: +2
| 2d6 | Result | |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Beyond your ken: This spell can never be learnt, regardless of formula or tutor! | |
| 3-5 | Beyond your grade: You must find a new tutor, craft a new formula, or find a new source to learn this spell. | |
| 6-7 | Progress, but not success: Spend another downtime turn (and research costs) to roll again. | |
| 8+ | You have successfully learned the spell - add it to your spellbook. |
