Lucerne Hammer - Magic Summary
A rough magic system outline roughly inspired from a wargame, but for use in OSR-ish games with OSR-ish spells. As I develop this, I may begin to steal from Glog magic in the future.

- Casting and Defense dice only refresh after a full night's sleep
- Casting Spells:
- Caster determines spell to cast
- Caster decide how many Casting Dice to use and rolls them
- Caster totals Casting Dice + Caster Level and compares to Spell Casting Value
- When rolling ONLY 1 die, a roll of "1" causes the spell to automatically fail, regardless of any other modifiers
- Success: If Casting Dice + Caster Level ("Casting Total") is equal or greater than Spell Casting Value, the spell succeeds.
- Failure: If Casting Dice + Caster Level ("Casting Total") is less than Spell Casting Value, the spell fails and that specific spell can not be attempted again that day.
- Wild Effects: If two or more dice reads "6", roll on the Wild Effects table for that Spell's Tradition, but the spell succeeds
- Forms: Some spells have a Greater Form, which takes effect if the Casting Total is equal to greater to the Greater Form Casting Value. The Caster does not have to decide which form to cast. The Great erForm was automatically take effect if that Casting Total is reached, but the Caster can always choose to have the Standard From effect instead.

Magic Missile
Tradition: Universal
Standard Form
- Casting Value: 4
- Effect: 1 magic missile that automatically hits a target in range, doing 1d4 + Caster Level damage
Greater Form
- Casting Value: 8
- Effect: 2 magic missiles that automatically hits a target in range, each doing 1d4 + Caster Level damage. The Caster may choose to have the missiles hit different targets.
Sleep
Tradition: Enchantment
Standard Form
- Casting Value: 6
- Effect: 2d6 targets of 1HD or less fall asleep
Greater Form
- Casting Value: 10
- Effect: 1d6 targets of 3HD or less fall asleep
Detect Magic
Tradition: Universal
Standard Form
- Casting Value: 2
- Effect: Detects magic items or magical effects within 30'
